Open Auditions

Auckland Theatre Company is holding Open Auditions this coming May 2025

Auckland Theatre Company is an employer of actors in all sorts of ways - the casting of productions, workshops, readings and as teaching artists with our Creative Learning Programme.  As such, we welcome actors into the room to do what they do best - act.

We are running open auditions so we can see actors we do not know, have not worked for us before or not recently.  The auditions are not for parts in productions; they will inform future casting decisions.

Please read the below application information, auditionee criteria and audition requirements carefully.

  • This open call is being led by Auckland Theatre Company Casting Director and Artistic Associate, Benjamin Kilby-Henson
  • Please follow the provided link to an application form and complete it to register your interest in auditioning
  • We ask that actors send this form themselves, not through their agent, so that audition slots can be arranged directly
  • This form includes a tick-box for the actor's preference of: weekday evening slot; weekday daytime slot; or weekend slot
  • We won’t be able to see everyone who applies, so there are criteria.  Qualifying applicants will be given auditions on a first-come-first-serve basis

Auckland Theatre Company is wanting to see actors who are trained and/or regularly working in paid, professional work.  Actors with no training or no professional level experience are not eligible for an audition.

We are not auditioning actors we know; that means anyone who has auditioned for Auckland Theatre Company since 1 April 2024, or who has worked for Auckland Theatre Company in a mainstage production since 1 January 2023.

We encourage and welcome audition applications from people of colour; people with a disability; folks of mature age; and LBGTQI+ people.

All audition applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be over 18 years of age
  • Have completed full-time actor training or have a track record of regular professional work, on stage or screen
  • Are based in Auckland, with a valid working visa, and can attend the audition in person at the times available. No tapes will be accepted

If selected for an auditon:

  • We ask the actor to prepare two contrasting monologues of their own choice lasting no longer than two minutes each
  • We ask these monologues to be from stage texts only. Please avoid speeches from the internet that are not from a full stage text
  • Stage texts can be found in Auckland Central Libraries; the Nola Millar Library online or through apps such as Everland or the Kindle app
  • Auditions will be 30mins in length, with actors seen in pairs
  • Auditions will be attended by industry directors
  • Due to the number of auditions, we will not be able to provide feedback. We will, however, work with each actor in the room as part of the audition

Auditions will be held at Auckland Theatre Company, 487 Dominion Road, Balmoral and run across the following days, at 30minute interval slots:

  • Wednesday 21st May, 5pm - 9.30pm
  • Friday 23rd May, 10am - 2.30pm
  • Saturday 24th May, 10am - 3pm
  • Wednesday 28th May, 5pm - 9.30pm
  • Friday 30th May, 10am - 2.30pm
